Se p 20 02 Mass gap in compact U ( 1 ) Model in ( 2 + 1 ) dimensions

چکیده
A numerical study of low-lying glueball masses of compact U(1) lattice gauge theory in (2+1) dimensions is performed using Standard Path integral Monte Carlo techniques. The masses are extracted, at fixed (low) temperature, from simulations on anisotropic lattices, with temporal lattice spacing much smaller than the spatial ones. Convincing evidence of the scaling behaviour in the antisymmetric mass gap is observed over the range 1.4 < β < 2.25. The observed behaviour is very consistent with asymptotic form predicted by Göpfert and Mack. Extrapolations are made to the “Hamiltonian” limit, and the results are compared with previous estimates obtained by many other Hamiltonian studies. Typeset using REVTEX ∗e-mail :[email protected] 1

Se p 20 02 PATH INTEGRAL MONTE CARLO APPROACH TO THE U ( 1 ) LATTICE GAUGE THEORY IN ( 2 + 1 ) DIMENSIONS
Path Integral Monte Carlo simulations have been performed for U(1) lattice gauge theory in (2+1) dimensions on anisotropic lattices. We extract the static quark potential, the string tension and the low-lying “glueball” spectrum. The Euclidean string tension and mass gap decrease exponentially at weak coupling in excellent agreement with the predictions of Polyakov and Göpfert and Mack, but the...

We give a pedagogical introduction to the physics of large extra dimensions. We focus our discussion on minimal extensions of the Standard Model in which gauge fields may propagate in a single, compact extra dimension while the fermions are restricted to a 4-dimensional Minkowski subspace. First, the basic ideas, including an appropriate gauge-fixing procedure in the higher-dimensional context,...

We point out that the permanent confinement in a compact 2+1-dimensional U(1) Abelian Higgs model is destroyed by matter fields in the fundamental representation. The deconfinement transition is Kosterlitz-Thouless like. The dual theory is shown to describe a three-dimensional gas of point charges with logarithmic interactions which arises from an anomalous dimension of the gauge field caused b...

We consider the minimal mass m0 required for solutions to the mass-critical nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation iut + ∆u = μ|u|4/du to blow up. If m0 is finite, we show that there exists a minimal-mass solution blowing up (in the sense of an infinite spacetime norm) in both time directions, whose orbit in Lx(R d) is compact after quotienting out by the symmetries of the equation. A similar res...

We suggest simple models which produce the suitable fermion mass hierarchies and flavor mixing angles based on the supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified theory in 6 dimensions compactified on a T 2 /Z 2 orbifold. The gauge and Higgs fields propagate in 6 dimensions while ordinal chiral matter fields are localized in 4 dimensions. We introduce extra vector-like heavy fields in the extra dimensions...
